To Repubs Alarmed About the “Trans Menace”

Dear Republicans alarmed about the “trans menace” in your midst,

I’m not going to waste my time or yours telling you that I’m genuinely grieved for the beautiful teachers and kids murdered at the Covenant School. I’m not oging to waste my time or yours telling you that I’m genuinely confused, sickened or heartbroken over Audrey Hale’s unconscionable shooting spree at Covenant School.

If you’re determined to see me as 1) your boogeyman, 2) a pathetic failure of a human being, and 3) a dangerously deluded victim all at the same time because I’m trans, you’re not likely to believe that my grief, pain and confusion are real, are you?

The more I ask you to believe that I feel how I claim, the more you have to already and always declare that I’m lying, and that any tears I shed are the tears of a self-obsessed crocodile gone mad. You especially have to declare this when my tears are for children.

So, I’m not going to waste my time or yours with asking.

I’m also not going to waste my time or yours begging you to believe me when I claim that while I don’t particularly like your religion or the impact it’s had on humanity, I would never claim “I get to take your religion away from you because _____.”
